CULTURE company chairman Professor Drummond Bone will step down as Liverpool University vice chancellor halfway through the 2008 celebrations. Last night Prof Bone said next summer is the “right time” for him to leave the university but he will remain in his role steering the activities during Capital of Culture year. He said: “I will have been in this job nine years, and I am a great believer that leaders should not stay in their positions for too long. “The summer of 2008 will be a time of pause for the university before it begins a time of big change in 2009. “It is a perfect time to hand over to somebody else.” Prof Bone said the next 15 months will be hectic, both for the university and the city. He said: “I do want to see through some important commitments I have made to Liverpool, but my decision to step down has nothing to do with Capital of Culture. If by September 2008, things are not in place, then it will be too late.” For more on this breaking news story, read Wednesday's Liverpool Daily Post. | |||
